SoldierStrong History and Mission
SoldierStrong is a Connecticut-based non-profit dedicated to providing a large impact through small goods for our soldiers. In 2009, co-founder, Chris Meek, heard of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan lacking basic essentials- mostly tube socks and baby wipes. With the idea to provide these basic essentials to the soldiers that were risking their lives for us, they founded SoldierStrong and working locally, held sock drives and fundraising events. As word spread, SoldierStrong picked up partnerships with large organizations including Cablevision, Sports Illustrated and Newman’s Own.
As the wars in the Middle East came to a close, but their ambition to help grew, SoldierStrong transformed their focus from providing small goods abroad to helping soldiers thrive at home. Sock drives were replaced by scholarships for returning veterans and partnering to provide cutting-edge rehabilitation technology to literally get soldiers back on their feet. SoldierStrong remains committed to its founding principle of providing veterans with the resources and support they need to overcome obstacles in everyday life.
SoldierSuit and the BiOM Ankle
The SoldierStrong SoldierSuit is the combination of several state-of-the-art rehabilitation technologies that address a variety of combat-related disabilities. SoldierStrong is partnering with some of the country’s most advanced medical technology firms, including Ekso Bionics, Myomo and BionX. The components used individually or in combination help users live more fulfilling, empowered lives long after their service to our country is over.
SoldierStrong and BionX announced their partnership in 2015. Together, they are working to make the BiOM Ankle available to more veterans nationwide. Though the Veterans Administration is a strong and valuable supporter of the BiOM Ankle, not all veterans qualify for the VA benefit. SoldierStrong has now added the BiOM Ankle to its portfolio of state-of-the-art rehabilitation technologies. They are hoping to provide veterans with lower limb amputations, the opportunity to have more freedom to do the things that they want to do.
