Charles S. Carignan, MD - Chief Executive Officer
Chuck brings over 20 years of experience in medical device development to BionX™. He has vast experience as a clinician, med-tech executive and CEO. He has had the opportunity to introduce a number of breakthrough technologies that have changed healthcare, navigating the clinical, regulatory and reimbursement challenges along the way. Before joining BionX, Chuck was founder and CEO of Ninepoint Medical, a developer of medical devices that enable high resolution in-vivo imaging. At NinePoint, he was able to bring together an outstanding team who developed and launched the first product within 3 years of licensing the fundamental technology from Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to that, Chuck was Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Novasys Medical, Inc., where he was responsible for the successful launch of a device to treat stress urinary incontinence. Prior to Novasys, he was Chief Medical Officer at Boston Scientific, and Vice President of clinical research and medical affairs at Conceptus. Chuck has served healthcare worldwide participating on committees of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Chuck trained in general surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his MD degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Chuck joined BionX in July 2014.
David Reissfelder – Chief Financial Officer
Dave has over 15 years of experience building, growing and operating financial and administrative functions in high-technology environments. His background spans multiple organizations and industries, from privately held venture-backed startups to publicly held large multinational companies. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer of Reveal Imaging Technologies, a manufacturer of aviation security systems. At Reveal, he helped build the company from startup into a global player in the aviation security market, delivering double digit annual revenue growth and profitability, until its acquisition by SAIC. Before joining Reveal, he worked at Ciena Corporation, a global supplier of telecommunications equipment, where he was a key contributor in the development and implementation of the financial, accounting, administrative and logistics functions for the company’s international operations, which eventually included over 20 international locations in Europe, Asia and Latin America. He also worked at Omnia Communications, a venture backed telecommunications equipment manufacturer (acquired by Ciena), CBE Technologies, an IT services firm, and at Audax Group, a private equity firm. He began his career in public accounting at Pannell Kerr Forster. He became a licensed CPA in Massachusetts in May 1997 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Babson College. Dave joined BionX in February 2013.
Matt Vitale - Vice President of Sales
Matt is an experienced sales professional bringing more than 10 years of experience in early market development and strategic planning in the commercialization of innovative medical devices and procedures. Matt joins BionX with a drive to provide the highest quality of customer service and product possible. He brings experience in building and directing first class sales and marketing organizations, as well as assessing and developing reimbursement strategies. He derives his success not only from his team’s success but also from his customer’s success. Prior to joining BionX, Matt was Regional Business Director at Bayer/Conceptus Inc. where he led his team to finish 1st in total sales and utilization. He successfully developed his team with a focus on continuous development for all members. Prior to that, Matt was Regional Business Manager at Novasys Medical Inc. where he developed and managed the #1 sales team for 4 years in a row. Matt joined BionX in July 2014.
Richard Smith – Senior Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs
Rick has over 15 years of experience in medical device Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs on numerous device types including: Diagnostic Imaging equipment (CT / MRI), In-Vitro Diagnostics, GYN surgical devices, orthopedic implants and prosthetics. Prior to joining BionX, Rick was Director of Quality Assurance at ConforMIS, a manufacturer of patient-specific knee implants and surgical guides, where he led and grew the Quality team through a period of rapid scale-up, including a successful FDA inspection. Before ConforMIS, Rick held various roles of increasing responsibility in both Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Hologic (formerly Cytyc), which included FDA submissions for both PMA and 510(k) products as well as managing the surgical division’s Quality department. Prior to Hologic, Rick was the Quality Assurance manager for Analogic’s medical CT scanner division. Before entering the medical device industry, Rick served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer in the US Navy after earning a BS in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Rick joined BionX in September 2014.
Jon Faucher – Corporate Controller, Senior Director of Finance
Jon is an accomplished finance professional with over 12 years of experience working in fast paced small to mid-sized high tech organizations. Jon brings extensive experience developing and implementing financial systems to drive business decisions. Prior to joining BionX, Jon was controller at PolyRemedy, Inc, where he was responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance and human resources. While there, Jon focused on cost reduction programs, cash burn analysis and series financing. Prior to that, Jon was the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis at Reveal Imaging Technologies, where he oversaw implementation a new ERP system. Additionally, he was responsible for business planning, analysis and forecasting, both domestically and internationally. Jon holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA from the F.W. Olin School at Babson College. Jon joined BionX in June 2013.
Paul Balutis - Senior Director of Research and Development
Paul has over 15 years of experience in robotics and new technology integration in fast paced advanced technology environments.
Brian Frasure, CP - Director of Clinical Education
Brian brings over 18 years of experience in advanced prosthetics to BiOM. As an amputee athlete, engineer, and prosthetist, Brian has a unique understanding of how advanced technologies interface with the biomechanics of the body. Prior to working at BionX, Brian was National Clinical Manager at Ossur Americas where he developed and led specials programs for key accounts, as well as ran sports clinics for users. Prior to that, Brian spent 14 years as a Professional Paralympic Athlete, where he was a Gold Medalist, World Champion and 5 time World Record Holder in 100M, 200M, 4×1 relay, 4×4 relay and long jump. Brian has a BS in Engineering from North Carolina State and he received his ABC certification from Northwestern University. Brian joined BionX in October 2010.
